The Cycle of Nature
Similar to the juxtaposition of delicate flowers with hard stones, I am intrigued by the pairing of old with new.
Every time I see a new growth peeking out from under a blanket of old I am reminded of the cycle of life. Sometimes I want to clear away the old debris so the new growth can have more air and space to grow but I remind myself that the old growth is actually integral to the new growth.
The old growth is providing nutrients and protection for the new growth to survive the vulnerable and challenging task of just getting started in the world. Eventually the old growth will disintegrate and disappear completely but, of course, it is just reformulated and re-absorbed into the new growth. Soon the new growth will be old and it will become fodder for the growth that follows it and the cycle will continue...
