Ready to Go
I once watched a nest of Robins. One day the babies seemed ready to fly. They had been eagerly eating everything their parents brought them so that they could gain strength and become independent.
On the day I thought they would fly, they instead sat perched on the edge of the nest like this all day long. The next morning they were still there. Somehow the fledgling birds understood that the process needs to take its time and it to not be rushed according to an outsider’s expectation. The birds allowed themselves the time they needed to get to the point where they were ready to fly.
I am fascinated with the individuation process. To start out in life as strong, competent and independent is not what is expected in the natural world. It takes time to develop the skills, interest and ability.
It's O.K. to be young and hesitant and even fearful. The right time will come with sincere preparation, intention and patience.
